Sally Holloway is a woman on a mission – to make Hastings the funniest town on the south coast!
Sally moved to Hastings in 2005, after a successful career on the stand-up comedy circuit. She regularly appeared at the Comedy Store and Jongleurs, becoming known for her penetrating observational comedy and up to the minute topical material. Sally appeared on TV in The Stand Up Show and Live at Jongleurs, and her writing credits include The Treatment and The 11 O’Clock Show.
Sally says: “I believe that some comedy is a work of genius and genius, like anything inventive, is often about making links between things that were previously unrelated. Those links, as clever as they seem, are there to be found. It’s often not a matter of thinking of a joke - it’s finding the joke.”
Deciding to share this approach with others, Sally began teaching joke writing and stand-up skills at venues such as London’s City Lit Institute. She also became a mentor for participants in the TV show I want 2 B Comedy. In 2007 Sally formed a partnership with Steve Amos of SATC to run courses in Hastings. Their first venture was a Joke Writing course, which Donald Mack, now appearing in his one-man show in Edinburgh, described as “The best comedy course that I’ve been on.”
The next course is ‘Stand Up and Deliver – an Introduction to Stand-Up Comedy Skills’. This six week course starts on Wednesday 5th September and culminates in an end of course show at the White Rock Hotel on 17th October. Mark the date in your diaries, and come and see Hastings’ new comic talent in action!
